Afghan Warlords
June 2009 Despite shady pasts, powerful warlords are given recognition from Washington in return for their support fighting drug-traffickers and the Taliban. We take a look at Americas new pragmatic approach. One such character is Gul Agha Sherzai, aka The Bulldozer and Governor of Nangarhar for the last five years. After striking a political deal with President Karzai, he became a powerbroker to be reckoned with. Ruling from his Jalalabad palace, Sherzai shows off his power: The Taliban is no danger. I have defeated them. By Afghan standards, security in his region has drastically improved along with an impressive fall in drugs production. Its hard to argue that hes been anything but a success enthuse US counter-narcotics officials. However, his past is less than pristine. An expert on the region says: To be an effective leader there, at some point you had to have been involved in the commission of atrocities, together with the accumulation of enormous wealth and that means Opium.' Sherzai allegedly got wealthy during his time as governor of Kandahar taking a cut from the opium profits from the area. While his former associate has been serving a life-sentence in the US, hes been enjoying a high-profile collaboration with Washington. Why? Theres a perception among the West that hes somebody who can be rehabilitated. He was simply deemed more useful. Produced by ABC Australia, distributed by Journeyman Pictures

Policy chaos, military muscle: Why US will never win Afghan war
With about 50 to 100 Al-Qaeda members in Afghanistan altogether, the US is spending over a billion dollars annually fighting each of them, estimated ex-marine officer Matthew Hoh, head of the Afghan Study Group. "One of the major problems with the US foreign policy is that we are not consistent," blamed Hoh, explaining that America is withdrawing troops from Iraq where the quantity of Al Qaeda members is many times higher than in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan Massacre Fallout
Via The Washington Post: "The Army staff sergeant accused of massacring Afghan civilians while they slept was providing security at a remote base for special operations forces that were teaching the Afghans how to defend themselves. While the soldier had no special operations training, his alleged actions deal a blow to the elite outreach program — called "Village Stability Operations" — which the US says is key to handing off security to Afghans and keeping the Taliban at bay...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks down the potential fallout from the shootings - will a withdrawal of troops come sooner than expected and end the year that began over 10 years ago? www.washingtonpost.com Subscribe to The Young Turks: bit.ly Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com The Largest Online New Show in the World. 'US seeks to stay forever in Afghanistan'
The US seeks to continue the Afghan war into a "perpetual state of low intensity guerilla conflict", preventing the country to rebuild its infrastructure, says a prominent political analyst. Afghan President Hamid Karzai has called for an investigation into what is described as the biggest coordinated Taliban attacks this year. Karzai says intelligence failures on the part of US-led forces allowed the militants to sneak into the most secure neighborhoods. The weekend assault in the capital Kabul and elsewhere left over 50 people--including four civilians and 11 Afghan soldiers --dead. Washington has dismissed Karzai's claim, saying the attacks were likely carried out by the Pakistan-based Haqqani network. This comes weeks ahead of the NATO summit in Chicago, where Karzai is expected to ink a strategic pact with the US. Meanwhile, the US is reportedly gearing up for a major offensive in the war-torn nation. Reports say the US-led spring offensive will be in the regions that control the main access routes into Kabul. Press TV has conducted an interview with Webster Griffin Tarpley, an author and historian in Washington, to further talk over the issue. Watch this article on our website: www.presstv.com

Pakistan tells NATO to leave air base
The American commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan says he will investigate what Pakistan has called a deliberate assault on its border. NATO aircraft killed more than two dozen Pakistani soldiers on Saturday. The alleged attack comes as the latest source of tension in a difficult year for Pakistan-US. relations following the US air raid into the Pakistani military town of Abottabad to kill Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Pakistan responded by closing a supply route to NATO's Afghanistan mission, and ordered the US to leave an airbase. Al Jazeera's Rosiland Jordan reports from Washington.

'Military & elite benefit from war in Afghanistan'
NATO is getting more help from Russia in the Afghan war. At a ministerial meeting in Brussels on Thursday, the sides discussed expanding the vital transit of military cargo to Afghanistan through Russia's territory. Moscow has provided the alliance with air corridors and railway routes. The link is vital as Pakistan blocked NATO supplies from crossing its territory after an air strike that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers 6 months ago. And as the alliance prepares to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, it finds itself in the midst of a string of scandals involving extreme breaches of discipline by US troops Washington says recently published photographs of soldiers posing with the remains of Afghan bombers show an isolated incident of young people caught up in the moment. For more on the topic RT talks to Mike Raddie from the London-based anti-war group Democracy Village. RT on Twitter: twitter.com RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com

The truth about Afghanistan
To this day Afghanistan does not have freedom. The NATO and US forces have been there for 8 years and they're not making things any better, they're the ones who terrorize afghans by bombing them, arresting them without charges and the Afghan government does nothing about it. Assessing al-Qaeda strength in Afghanistan
US and British forces invaded Afghanistan eight years ago. But despite almost a decade of occupation, Washington is no closer to capturing of killing the man who was the primary objective of the whole war - Osama bin Laden. Contradictory information concerning his whereabouts make that task seem ever more unlikely. It is not known whether he is even dead of alive. Al Jazeera Correspondent Zeina Khodr reports from the Afghan capital Kabul on how the question of Al Qaeda's strength has now come to the heart of the debate as to whether more troops are needed or not, and the difficult decisions that now face US president Barack Obama.

Bush Signed Afghanistan Invasion Day Before 9/11! - Alex Jones
By Reuters Thursday, September 8th, 2011 NEW YORK (Reuters) - Ten years after al Qaeda's attack on the United States, the vast majority of the 9/11 Commission's investigative records remain sealed at the National Archives in Washington, even though the commission had directed the archives to make most of the material public in 2009, Reuters has learned. The National Archives' failure to release the material presents a hurdle for historians and others seeking to plumb one of the most dramatic events in modern American history. The 575 cubic feet of records were in large part the basis for the commission's public report, issued July 22, 2004. The commission, formally known as the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, was established by Congress in late 2002 to investigate the events leading up to the 9/11 attacks, the pre-attack effectiveness of intelligence agencies and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the government's emergency response. www.rawstory.com www.infowars.com www.prisonplanet.tv www.infowars.net www.prisonplanet.com www.prisonplanet.tv
