Azam Ali- Lasse Pour Quoi
Song: "Lasse Pour Quoi" Artist: Azam Ali Album: Portals of Grace Year: 2002 From the liner notes: Of the countless 12th and 13th century Trobairitz (female poet- musicians) who graces the magnificent courts of medievel Europe, we know only the names of a mere handful, which is why the source of so many of the poems and melodies such as this one remains a mystery. The language of the troubadours, know as Old Provençal, was the language spoken in the southern half of present day France. The poems of the Trobairitz mostly portray the joys or sorrows of a woman in love. Here, a woman sings of her regret for refusing the one whom she loves.

Azam Ali-The Tryst
Lyrics: In the tumult of youth I forgot about your promise Of our tryst My love for live overflowed In the death of your splendor And now as I make haste Towards my own death My pride breaks Under its own weight The clamor of truth Beats steadily in my breast As your love Tears into the sheath of my pain The sin is mine And I weep at my unworthiness To tend to your garden ----I don't claim rights to the song...so don't delete it. Thank you

Azam Ali - I Am a Stranger in This World!
The Track "I Am a Stranger in This World" is taken from Azam Ali's fantastic second solo Album "Elysium For The Brave" (2006). Listen and enjoy it. Azam Ali's first album, "Portals Of Grace", was such a stunning piece of multicultural lyricism that it quickly established the singer as a major new star of world music. For this follow-up, Ali's had four years to both hone her poetic lyrics and expand on the breadth of musical influences. The result is an intoxicating collection of songs that blend rock, Middle Eastern folk music, and chill-out trance, made all the more exotic and celestial by the presence of Ali's rich vocals. About Azam Ali: "One of today's most astounding voices" Azam Ali's voice is a glorious, unforgettable instrument which will set a thousand minarets spinning with its sensuous, rich pulchritude. Her velvet vocals convey both sensuality and devotional ecstasy. She has become one of the best-love vocalist on world music scene. Musicians: Azam Ali (vocals, hammer dulcimer, frame drum, zills) Loga Ramin Torkian (guitar, electric guitar, violin) Pat Mastelotto (drums, tom tom) Carmen Rizzo (keyboards, synthesizer, programming) Trey Gunn (guitar) Satnam Ramgotra (tabla) Tyler Bates (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, keyboards) Omid Torbatian (ney) Written and composed by Azam Ali & Loga Ramin Torkian Produced by Azam Ali & Carmen Rizzo. Azam Ali - La Serena!
The Track "La Serena (Sephardic, Jodeao-Spanish)" is taken from Azam Ali's fantastic solo debut Album "Portals Of Grace" (2002). Listen and enjoy it. Having made her name as the ethereal vocalist of Vas & Niyaz, Azam Ali ventures forth with this shimmering solo debut. Openly influenced by Hildegard von Bingen, "Portals Of Grace" continues Ali's long relationship with the music and stories of medieval Europe, drawing from Sephardic, Breton, and Latin sources, to name a few. About the track: "A woman sits in the window of a tower in the sea and sings melancholically to the sailors going by." The songs of the Sephardim (Spanish Jews), handed down orally from generation to generation, tell the stories of their lives, their history, and their culture during their settlement in the Iberian Peninsula until their exile in 1492. The Sephardic language is known as Judezmo or Judeo-Spanish, which is the Spanish language of the middle ages. As a result of the Jewish Diaspora, Sephardic communities were established throughout the Mediterranean, North Africa, Turkey, Egypt, Greece, Palestine, Syria and the Balkan states. Although they managed to preserve their culture by maintaining their Hispanic traditions wherever they lived, their music became greatly influenced by the cultures they inhabited, hence creating the immensely diverse repertoire of Sephardic songs we hear today. The one thing that intrigues me most is that during the Islamic conquest of Spain, the Muslims and the Jews ...

Azam Ali - From Heaven to Dust!
The Track "From Heaven to Dust" is taken from Azam Ali's fantastic second solo Album "Elysium For The Brave" (2006). Listen and enjoy it. "The leaves tell of the flower's death of the hours spent in this graveyard no one tending to its pain no one tending to its shame Your eyes tell of a star's death its house drained of old memories of night holding within its claim the light pending to pay the debt." The Track "Ben Pode Santa Maria (13th century, Galician-Portuguese)" is taken from Azam Ali's fantastic solo debut Album "Portals Of Grace" (2002). About the track: (Cantiga de Santa Maria - 13th century, Galician-Portuguese) The Cantigas de Santa Maria is the largest collection of medieval Iberian monophonic songs to have survived along with the texts. They are compiled from some 400 songs that celebrate the divine virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary and recount the tales of the miracles she performed. It is widely believed that in the 13th and 14th century, the Jewish and Arab musicians of the courts played a very important role in the performance of the Cantigas. This piece tells of how the Virgin Mary restored the sight of a goldsmith of Chartres. 41 ways to die (Azam Ali) - xena
Forty one ways to die One strong will to live World's gone all awry Faith is the battlefield Tender, I feel And the wheels turn To fortify a design of free will Forty one ways to die One strong pain to feel Strapped to a suicide With just one more place to be Tender, I feel And the wheels turn To fortify a design of free will We test, we form, we fear, we tilt We strive, we fall, we want, we kill And we hail, and we doubt And with all waisted We heal, and we call We atone kneeled here And will stray fortified In a windfall Clips from Heart of Darkness. Mostly captures the downfall of the angel Lucifier into becoming hell's ruler, and that we all have a downfall but only some overcome it such as Xena, Gabby and Eve. Song is by Azam Ali. Didn't quite turn out the way I wanted it to but please comment to let me know what I could change.
