Iran - Iraq War (1980-1988) Part 1
The Iran--Iraq War, also known as the Imposed War (جنگ تحمیلی, Jang-e-tahmīlī) and Holy Defense (دفاع مقدس, Defā'-e-moqqaddas) in Iran, Saddām's Qādisiyyah (قادسيّة صدّام, Qādisiyyat Ṣaddām) in Iraq, and the (First) Persian Gulf War, was an armed conflict between the armed forces of Iraq and Iran, lasting from September 1980 to August 1988, making it the longest conventional war of the twentieth century.[17][18][19] It was initially referred to in English as the "Persian Gulf War" prior to the "Gulf War" of 1990.

'Ground invasion of Iran would make Iraq look pretty'
Russia has issued a clear warning to Israel over a possible attack on Iran. The Foreign Minister was responding to the Israeli president's suggestion that a military strike on Iran is more likely than diplomacy. Sergey Lavrov said any such attack would be a serious mistake with unpredictable consequences. The UN nuclear watchdog is about to report on Iran's nuclear activities where it's thought it will reveal computer models of an atomic warhead and other weapons-related work. Israel's main ally, the US, says it will focus on diplomacy but is ready to keep all options open. Political analyst Ivan Eland says Washington is unlikely to support Israel's push for an attack. Iran & Iraq War, Iranian troops attacked by helicopters (Operation Beit ol-Moqaddas)
Also see this link: www.youtube.com April 1982, when the Iranians launched Operation Beit ol-Moqaddas to recapture the Khuzestan province. The first attack (April 24 to May 12) consisted of 70000 Pasdaran (members of Iran's military, the (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps IRGC) and succeeded in pushing the Iraqis out of the Ahvaz-Susangerd area. The Iraqis withdrew back to Khorramshahr city and, on May 20th, launched a counter attack against the Iranians, which was repulsed. The Iranians then launched an all out assault on Khorramshahr, capturing two of the defense lines in the Pol-e No and Shalamcheh region. The Iranians gathered around the Shatt al-Arab (known as Arvand Rud in Iran) waterway, surrounding the city and, thus, beginning the second siege. The Iranians finally recaptured the city on May 24th after two days of bitter fighting.

Iran- Iraq trade increases exponentially
While world powers attempt to tighten the sanctions screw on Iran, trade with neighbouring Iraq is booming. Both countries were once mortal enemies but since the fall of Saddam Hussein, Iraq is now a major consumer of Iranian manufactured goods partly because Iraq has virtually no industry of its own. Iran the next Iraq?
Despite a lack of concrete evidence, the Western powers and their allies have continued to accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons. A series of events including the bombing of Israeli embassies, threatening to cut oil exports to the UK and loading fuel rods in a research reactor have many feeling Iran is provoking a war. So is Iran really a threat or is the mainstream media promoting America's next war? David Swanson, author of War is a Lie, joins us to discuss the complicated situation with Iran. 'Accusing Iran of 9/11 echoes Iraq scenario'
On Thursday, families of victims of the September 11th 2001 attacks won a default judgment against Iran, the Taliban, Al-Qaeda and Lebanon-based Hezbollah. According to the lawsuit, people in Iran -- including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei- provided support to the terrorists who went on to attack civilians on US soil. But analysts say it's nothing but a cover-up, with Iran as a convenient fall guy. Jamal Abdi from the National Iranian American Council tells RT that there is a campaign going on "to ratchet up pressure for yet another US attack on a Middle Eastern country." Iran - Iraq war 1980-1988 part II
Iran - Iraq war reported by Terry Lloyd (ITN coproduction). The Iran-Iraq War, also known as the Imposed War and the (First) Persian Gulf War, was an armed conflict between the armed forces of Iraq and Iran, lasting from September 1980 to August 1988, making it the longest conventional war of the twentieth century. It was initially referred to in English as the "Persian Gulf War" prior to the "Gulf War" of 1990 with the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq. The war began when Iraq invaded Iran, launching a simultaneous invasion by air and land into Iranian territory on 22 September 1980 following a long history of border disputes, and fears of Shia insurgency among Iraq's long-suppressed Shia majority influenced by the Iranian Revolution. Iraq was also aiming to replace Iran as the dominant Persian Gulf state. Although Iraq hoped to take advantage of revolutionary chaos in Iran and attacked without formal warning, they made only limited progress into Iran and within several months were repelled by the Iranians who regained virtually all lost territory by June, 1982. For the next six years, Iran was on the offensive. Despite calls for a ceasefire by the United Nations Security Council, hostilities continued until 20 August 1988. The war finally ended with a United Nations brokered ceasefire in the form of United Nations Security Council Resolution 598, which was accepted by both sides. The last prisoners of war were exchanged in 2003. The war came at a great cost in lives and ...

'US intervention in Iran will drag China & Russia into war'
Iran is accusing the EU of waging an economic war. It's in response to Europe considering banning Iranian oil imports in the coming weeks. There's already a verbal standoff over sanctions imposed by the US at the end of last year, aimed at pressing Iran into abandoning its nuclear programme. Tehran threatened to block a key maritime trade route in the Persian Gulf, and later backed off, but is still warning US ships against sailing in the area. Iran will reportedly hold another naval drill next month. But anti-war activist John Rees sees Western worries over Iran's supposed nuclear ambitions, as an excuse to curtail Iranian influence in the region. Full Iranian Movie: "The Night Bus" [2007] HQ
The Night Bus (Persian: اتوبوس شب, Otobus-e Shab) is the name of an Iranian motion picture directed by Kiumars Pourahmad. It was made in 2006 and released in 2007. The film, which is in sharp monochrome, relates the story of a twenty-four-hour-long journey of two young Iranian soldiers (Issā and Emād) and a civilian driver (Amu Rahim) transporting thirty-eight Iraqi prisoners of war, taken from behind the Iraqi line, to a garrison inside Iran. From the details one is informed that the Iran--Iraq War has entered into its third year. The film masterfully depicts the deep inhumanity of acts of war amongst nations by showing the shared humanity of the combatants on both sides. Some scenes of the above-mentioned garrison are reminiscent of those of the 1965 British film The Hill. In the film, the Iranian characters speak Persian amongst themselves, with a variety of regional accents — emphasising the national character of the war effort, but broken Arabic, comprehensible to a Persian-speaking person, when addressing the Iraqi prisoners. The Arabic dialogues of the film, by the prisoners, are accompanied by Persian subtitles. ======================== www.youtube ========================

Paul Craig Roberts: Neo-Cons want war with Iran just like Iraq
Iran is being targeted by The International Atomic Energy Agency. The IAEA is claiming Iran is gathering essential materials to build a nuclear warhead. Some critics feel this is reminiscent to the situation when the US had "concrete" evidence that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction but were never found. Is Iran trying to acquire nuclear weapons or is this another ploy by the Western powers? Paul Craig Roberts, former Reagan administration official and columnist, helps us answer some of these questions. Follow Kristine on Twitter at twitter.com

US war with Iran around the corner?
The drums of war against Iran are beating louder now in the Middle East. This as Israel's saber rattling suggests an attack on the country may not be too far off in the near future. Israel says if and when Iran attacks, they'll only give the US a 12 hour notice. So, is war with Iran just around the corner? RT's Marina Portnaya reports.
