Navruz in Tajikistan
Navruz consists from to simple words, "Nav and Ruz" which means "New and day". Only this structure of words conquered the hearts of all the nations celebrating Navruz so that, each of them consider themselves as the owner of this festival. But, reality is that, Navruz is the Lord of all these nations. Scientists saying that, Navruz has more than 5-thousand years of history. There is not any settlement, which residents were missing Navruz celebration even for one year. Navruz is so loved among this people that firstly it will be celebrated in the circle of family, and then celebrations reaches the state levels. But, with all the differences of celebrations, the festive table of Navruz in Tajikistan is the symbol of spring. Arrangement of the festive table from 7 sin and 7 shin products is that tradition, which history is like Navruzi one. Now during the several last years, Navruz gained its real virgin. Because, from the beginning, it was not a festival of a nation, but it was whole nations' festival.

Drugs Blight - Tajikistan
Nov 2007 Tajikistan is struggling to cope with an influx of cheap drugs from Afghanistan. The country has just one rehab clinic and on average, ten soldiers a year die in shoot outs with drug traffickers. Last year, more than two billion dollars worth of heroin was smuggled from Afghanistan. "No matter how much effort we put into fighting the trafficking, the real problem is in Afghanistan", complains General Nazarov. Many are nostalgic of the days of the Taliban, when heroin was much harder to obtain.

Roadtrip through the Western Pamirs, Tajikistan (2007)
Traveller's Teacup Sept 2007 - The Tajikistan Pamirs are an incredibly remote part of the world. To get there you either need to drive for 16 hours from Dushanbe (capital city), on a road that makes a milkshake seem tame or you can take a tiny plane that doesn't quite get up above 6000m cliff faces. Despite the horror stories, the flight was worth it. Looking out the window to the south, the Hindu Kush mountain range of Afghanistan was clearly visible and at times too close! After notably fuelling the car in Khorog for our 600km journey, we took off South towards the Wakhan Valley. This fertile valley has been inhabited and used as a Silk road trade route for centuries and is littered with archaeological markers. Age old petroglyphs, 3rd century BC Forts, Buddhist stupas and hermit caves, Islamic mausoleums, and burnt out army tanks document the valley's colourful history. This valley straddles the Tajiki-Afghani border and looking right across the Pyanj river is Afghanistan and the magnificent Hindu Kush. Famously known as the Wakhan Corridor, it was divvied up as a "no-mans land" by Britain and Russia during the Great Game era. Today, it is a border heavily guarded for obvious reasons including drug trafficking. The Tajiki side of the road is maintained but at points little more than a steep bumpy mountain track (I hope the footage doesn't make you too seasick!). The local people are mountain farmers who get around in 4wd jeeps and constantly breaking down trucks. The <b>...</b>
