Afghan victims want prosecution of criminals
May 10, 2010: families of victims in Afghanistan gather in Polygon killing ground and ask for prosecution of the criminals who have high posts in the Afghan government. They raise their voice against a law passed by criminals in Afghan parliament based on which all criminals of past 30 years are granted immunity before any court. A victim woman says: "Mr. Karzai has no right to forgive the blood of my loved ones to the criminals, he has not lost his one son, when his own son is killed then he can forgive the killers." Another man describe how two of his kids were abducted and killed by aa warlord member of Afghanistan parliament, but he was not tried for it and still he is in the parliament.

Afghan rape victim lives in fear - 6 Dec 09
Two-years after she was beaten and raped by eight men, fourteen-year-old Samiya has yet to see justice. Her story stands in contrast to Western claims that the lot of women in Afghanistan has improved since the US-led invasion. Seven of the eight men who attacked Samiya were arrested, but her family believes their daughter's rapists have powerful connections and are looking for revenge. Samiya and he family live in fear and her father, whose story Al Jazeera reported on two years ago, has been imprisoned by a local leader after he sought justice for his daughter. Al Jazeera's Steve Chao has this exclusive report from Afghanistan.

Interview with lawyer of pardoned Afghan rape victim
An Afghan woman who was imprisoned for adultery after she had reported that she had been raped is free following a pardon from Afghan President Hamid Karzai. However, circumstances around her release remain unclear. Original reports say that as a condition of her release, she had agreed to marry the man who raped her. Kimberly Motley, the woman's lawyer, tells Al Jazeera from Kabul that the presidential palace assured her no such conditions were set on the woman's release.

ABC News: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) says children in Afghanistan suffer more than in any other country in the world from violence, war and poverty. It says Afghan children are not only caught up in fighting between Taliban rebels and international forces, but there is also evidence of an increasing number ending up on the frontlines. Radhika Coomaraswamy, the UN's special representative for Children in Armed Conflict, says Afghan children are the "forgotten victims" of three decades of war and violence. "I can't think of any country in the world where children suffer more than in Afghanistan," Ms Coomaraswamy said. "In all our meetings with children it takes a lot of time to make them smile. That to me shows that there is not happiness in their hearts."

Afghan helicopter crash victim's remains to return home
30 Americans including 22 Navy SEALS were killed when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan. David Martin reports their remains are on their way to Dover Air Force base in Delaware.

The parents of the 100th British soldier to die in Afghanistan this year have said there are "no words" to describe their loss but he died doing a job that made them proud. Lance Corporal Adam Drane from 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment Friends have described Lance Corporal Adam Drane, 23, from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, as a kind and loving man who never stopped talking about his fiancee. The soldier, from 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment, was shot dead in the Nad-e Ali area, in central Helmand Province, on Monday. His death brings the total number of British service personnel who have died since the start of operations in Afghanistan in 2001 to 237. This year has been the bloodiest for British forces since the Falklands War in 1982, and follows 39 British deaths in the Afghan conflict in 2006, 42 in 2007 and 51 in 2008. Head of the Army, General Sir David Richards, said the 100th fatality of 2009 "hardens our determination to succeed" and urged the public not to judge the campaign by casualties alone. Afghan woman jailed for being raped pardoned
In Afghanistan, the treatment of a rape victim is drawing international attention to the plight of women. The woman, known as 'Gulnaz', was raped by a relative - and then jailed for having sex out of wedlock. She has now been pardoned by Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, but is understood to be facing pressure to marry the man who abused her. Kimberley Motley, Gulnaz's lawyer, told Al Jazeera her pardon is an important precedent for the rights of Afghan women.

President Obama Witnesses Return of Americans Killed in Afghanistan
President Obama saluted 15 US soldiers and three Drug Enforcement Agency agents as their bodies, in transfer cases, were carried off a military transport plane and onto the the tarmac at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. The base is America's entry point for US servicemen and women killed overseas. President Obama's presence marked a shift in policy regarding media coverage of war casualties. With the family's permission, reporters were allowed to record the return of one of the soldiers. This was the first time in 18 years the media was allowed at such an event.
