Attacks in Kabul, Afghanistan on 09/13/2011 (RAW Footage)
This is video of the attacks on the ISAF and NATO Security Forces in Kabul, Afghanistan. Afghan National Security Forces, supported by coalition forces, successfully concluded an operation this morning against a small group of insurgents who attacked several locations in Kabul City. Insurgents attacked the International Security Assistance Force Afghanistan headquarters and the US Embassy in Kabul on Tuesday with small arms fire from outside the secure zone surrounding these compounds. Afghan National Security Forces, who have the lead for security in Kabul, responded immediately, to include Afghan National Army helicopters providing air support. Afghan and coalition forces trapped the insurgents in the partially-constructed, multi-story building they were using as a firing position, and conducted a methodical, floor-by-floor clearing operation. The Ministry of the Interior is reporting six insurgents killed in the operation. "The people of Afghanistan have chosen a path to the future with transition," said Gen. John R. Allen, ISAF commander. "In this attack, the insurgency succeeded in killing Afghan civilians, once again demonstrating their bankrupt ideology, which has been rejected by the Afghan people. Afghan security forces responded bravely, contained the insurgents, and systematically eliminated the threat. Once again, I was impressed by the courage, skill and fighting spirit of Afghan forces. The insurgency has again failed." Current reports indicate that six ISAF ...

Kabul Afghanistan Attacks (15 April 2012)
Attackers in Afghanistan launched a coordinated wave of assaults Sunday, targeting a heavily protected district of the capital that includes embassies and the presidential palace, as well as trying to strike an airbase used by American troops, officials said. Government facilities, and the American, German and Russian embassies in Kabul were targeted, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said, saying up to seven locations were attacked. Insurgents also took over a building in front of the Afghan parliament and began firing at it, the Kabul police chief's office said in a statement. But police headed off some attacks, arresting two potential suicide bombers and their handler, and destroying a vehicle full of explosives, the statement said. They confessed to being members of the Haqqani network, police said. The insurgent group sometimes allies itself with the Taliban but is a separate movement. At least 13 insurgents were killed in four different locations around the country, Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Seddiqi said. Fourteen Afghan police officers were injured, he said. Another 15 would-be attackers were arrested in Kunduz province plotting similar strikes, said Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai, a spokesman for the chief of police for north and northeast Afghanistan. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying tens of suicide bombers were carrying them out in Kabul and three provinces around the country. The Islamist militia that once ruled Afghanistan ...

American University of Afghanistan (AUAF): Oasis in Kabul
USAID supports AUAF as it expands its undergraduate program, increases enrollment, and implements a fundraising plan to increase its financial independence. AUAF offers English language undergraduate and continuing education programs in the US liberal arts tradition. Degree programs are offered in liberal arts as well as market-driven fields such as business administration and information technology. AUAF's Foundation Studies Program, a pre-university experience, brings potential students to the levels of English and math required for admission to AUAF. Besides addressing critical skills shortages in Afghanistan's workforce, AUAF's Professional Development Institute courses in English, information technology, leadership, and project management generate income to contribute to managing the university's operations. AUAF has also launched the university's MBA program, making it the first Western-style MBA in Afghanistan. The university held its first graduation in May 2011 at which 32 students (8 female) received degree certificates in various disciplines.

Afghanistan Suicide bomber attacks Kabul shrine killing 60+
Two Afghanistan bombings aimed at Shiites kill at least 60+ people A suicide bomber killed at least 55 people outside a Kabul shrine and injured 134, and a bicycle bomb detonated near a Shiite gathering in Mazar-i-Sharif, killing at least four and hurting 16. Reporting from Kabul, Afghanistan, and Islamabad,— Bomb blasts targeting Shiite Muslim gatherings Tuesday in two Afghan cities killed at least 59 people and injured 150, a rare outbreak of sectarian violence in a country racked by 10 years of war with Taliban insurgents. A noontime blast in Kabul, the capital, involved a suicide bomber hidden among a throng of Shiite worshipers outside the Abul Fazal Abbas shrine, said Gen. Mohammed Zahir, head of criminal investigations for the Kabul police. That attack killed at least 55 people and injured 134, the Interior Ministry said. At about the same time in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif, a bomb on a bicycle detonated near a gathering of Shiites, killing at least four people and injuring 16, provincial and Interior Ministry officials said. The bomb exploded as a Shiite procession was heading toward a city shrine, said Gen. Abdul Taj, a top police official in Balkh province, where Mazar-i-Sharif is located. Another nearby bomb probably meant for the procession was found and defused, Taj said. The attacks occurred on the Shiite holy day of Ashura, which commemorates the anniversary of the 7th century martyrdom of Imam Hussein, a grandson of the prophet Muhammad. Speaking ...

Junky spirits of Kabul: Afghanistan world's narco plague epicenter
A US-based study has revealed even newborns in Afghanistan have morphine in their blood. Every year the production of opiates is growing, despite the billions of dollars spent by the international community to fight the country's narcotics machine. Heroin and opium are openly used even in the center of Kabul, while NATO says stopping all this is simply not its goal. I have to admit we thought Kabul would be rough, but what we witnessed there spread far beyond all expectations. With its combination of devastating living conditions, poor infrastructure and depressive atmosphere, Kabul made Benghazi feel like a tropical resort. They say back in the day Kabul was a beautiful, rich city with golden domes of mosques, green parks and alleys all around. But the next three decades of violence have surely left their scars. And if during the Soviet presence the city received new roads, schools, hospitals and apartment buildings, today, with the alliance, it seems Kabul is stuck in its own dimension. 'US wanted Taliban attacks to happen in Kabul'
The Taliban has launched a series of coordinated attacks across the Afghan capital on Sunday, including an assault on the presidential palace, the Afghan Parliament and NATO headquarters. Most of the targets were in the city's diplomatic district, with western embassies and residences under fire. 32 insurgent fighters and two police officers were killed in the violence, while dozens more were injured. The military airport at Jalalabad in the east of the country has also been hit, while violence has been reported in two other provinces. The Taliban says the attacks were retaliation for the actions of US troops, including the burning of the Koran and the recent massacre of 17 Afghan civilians.
