Australia discriminates against Hazara + Tamil refugees on basis of race: redneck gvmt asylum policy
The Australian Government has suspended processing of Hazara refugees from Afghanistan (@1.42+) + Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka..... ''The message is the circumstances in Australia have changed and that increasingly persons from Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are being refused asylum...'' Under fire from the opposition for having ''softened'' its border protection rules, leading to the arrival of 105 boats to date, the government was clearly desperate for a strategy to send a message to people smugglers. The message? Your clients will sit in limbo on Christmas Island and probably be sent home. ''The decision has been made in the light of changing circumstances in both Afghanistan and Sri Lanka,'' Immigration Minister Chris Evans told a press conference this morning. The suspension, pending a review, followed the announcement by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees that it was reviewing security conditions in Sri Lanka and Afghanistan - major source countries for asylum seekers arriving in Australia. It also follows a statement by a senior official of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Indonesia who declared people smuggling was out of control. Manuel Jordao said there were 4000 asylum seekers registered with the UN in Indonesia, and large numbers of them would try to get to Australia by boat. The mostly Shia Hazara community of Afghanistan is poised to have a significant effect on the country's elections. Eager to tap into the Hazara vote, Hamid Karzai, the incumbent president, recently signed off on a controversial Shia family law. The law has sparked international criticism as limiting women's rights, but as Al Jazeera's Hashem Ahelbarra reports, Karzai is unlikely to risk losing the Hazara vote by repealing the law.

The Great Nation (Hazara)
who are the hazaras? The Hazaras are one of several ethnic groups inhabiting 7 million mostly in central Afghanistan. The area is known as Hazarajat or originally Hazaristan. The Hazaras are Muslim and Shi'a in majority, but we also have Sunni's. We speak our own version of Farsi known as the "Hazaragi" dialect. The Hazaras are the second largest ethnic group in Afghanistan. However, as a consequence of the discriminatory and segregationist policies of ruling Afghan/Pashtun governments, they remain politically, economically and socially the most underdeveloped group in Afghanistan society The Hazaras are mostly Shias Muslims, and inhabit the heart of Afghanistan, surrounded by Sunni Muslims. A second theory suggests that the Hazaras adopted Shiism at the time of Shah Abbas Safavid (1589-1629). This theory was first proposed by Vambery in 1895, who maintained: Shah Abbas forced them [the Hazaras] to accept Shiism (1864:132). Hazara Shiism, like that of Persia, is Isna-Ashari (Twelver). This theory of their conversion to Shiism at the time of Shah Abbas is confirmed by the Hazara themselves. the Hazaras were already Shias at the time of Shah Abbas; two to three thousand Hazara soldiers, under the command of Din Mohammad Khan Uzbek, fought against Shah Abbass army (1916:567-9). A third theory maintains that the Hazaras adopted Shiism as soon as they converted to Islam. After Ghazan-Khan his son, Abu Said, continued his fathers tradition (Rashid, 1959:984-985997).
