3-year-old recites poem, "Litany" by Billy Collins
This is my 3-year-old son. He loves poetry and he loves to memorize. Here he is reciting a poem called "Litany" by Billy Collins. Here is the text: "You are the bread and the knife, the crystal goblet and the wine. You are the dew on the morning grass and the burning wheel of the sun. You are the white apron of the baker, and the marsh birds suddenly in flight. However, you are not the wind in the orchard, the plums on the counter, or the house of cards. And you are certainly not the pine-scented air. There is just no way that you are the pine-scented air. It is possible that you are the fish under the bridge, maybe even the pigeon on the general's head, but you are not even close to being the field of cornflowers at dusk. And a quick look in the mirror will show that you are neither the boots in the corner nor the boat asleep in its boathouse. It might interest you to know, speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world, that I am the sound of rain on the roof. I also happen to be the shooting star, the evening paper blowing down an alley and the basket of chestnuts on the kitchen table. I am also the moon in the trees and the blind woman's tea cup. Manzil recited by Qari Ayyub Essack [1/2]
The ayaat (verses) of the Qur'an compiled herein are generally known as Manzil. The elders were particularly punctual in reciting this Manzil from amongst other du`as and formulas for protection and cure. It was customary to make special arrangements for children to commit this Manzil to memory. Undoubtedly the ayah of the Qur'an and those du`as that are mentioned in the ahadith are more effective and beneficial than the wearing of a ta'aweez. In the formula of these amaliyaat (reciting of certain ayah and du`as for a particular purpose) preference must be given to the Qur'an and ahadith. The noble leader of the Ambiya, Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wasallam), has taught us a du'a for every occasion of our dini (religious) and dunyawi (worldly) needs. In the experience of the Masha'ikh (the scholars) reciting of certain ayaat and duas for particular purposes has also been experienced to be successful. The reading of the Manzil has been confirmed to be extremely effective for protection against the evil influence of Jinn, Sihr (witchcraft, sorcery etc.) and other evils. These ayaat of the Qur'an have also been mentioned with a slight variation in the number of ayaat, in the book Al Qawlul Jameel, wherein it has also been mentioned that there are these thirty three ayah which ward off the effects of Sihr (witch-craft), and that they are a protection against the Shayatin (devils), thieves and harmful wild beasts. Its theme is to affirm the meting out of rewards and punishments in the Hereafter, which the people of Makkah were not prepared to acknowledge, Let us consider the reasoning in the order in which it has been presented. First of all, swearing oaths by the dawn, the ten nights, the even and the odd, and the departing night, the listeners have been asked: "Are these things not enough to testify to the truth of that which you are refusing to acknowledge?" From the explanation that we have given of these four things in the corresponding notes, it will become clear that these things are a symbol of the regularity that exists in the night and day, and swearing oaths by these the question has been asked in the sense: Even after witnessing this wise system established by God, do you still need any other evidence to show that it is not beyond the power of that God Who has brought about this system to establish the Hereafter, and that it is the very requirement of his wisdom that He should call man to account for his deeds? Then, reasoning from man's own history, the evil end of the Ad and the Thamud and Pharaoh has been cited as an example to show that when they transgressed all limits and multiplied corruption in the earth, Allah laid upon them the scourge of His chastisement. This is a proof of the fact that the system of the universe is not being run by deaf and blind forces, nor is the world a lawless kingdom of a corrupt ruler, but a Wise Ruler is ruling over it, the demand of <b>...</b>

He looked, and saw a fog or cloud overhead. He mentioned this to the Prophet , who said: «اقْرَأْ فُلَانُ، فَإِنَّهَا السَّكِينَةُ تَنْزِلُ عِنْدَ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْ تَنَزَّلَتْ لِلْقُرْآن» (Keep on reciting so and so, for this is the tranquillity which descends when one reads Qur'an or because of reading Qur'an;) This was also recorded in the Two Sahihs. This man who recited it was Usayd bin Al-Hudayr, as we have previously mentioned in our Tafsir of Surat Al-Baqarah. Imam Ahmad recorded from Abu Ad-Darda' that the Prophet said: «مَنْ حَفِظَ عَشْرَ آيَاتٍ مِنْ أَوَّلِ سُورَةِ الْكَهْفِ عُصِمَ مِنَ الدَّجَّال» (Whoever memorizes ten Ayat from the beginning of Surat Al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal.) This was also recorded by Muslim, Abu Dawud, An-Nasa'i and At-Tirmidhi.
